Our work

The work, as it looked on the day.

Photographs from water network jobs our team has worked on: excavation, laying, road crossings, house connections and reinstatement.

Excavation

Machine where there is room, by hand where there are other services in the ground.

Footage: breaking rock in the trench with an electric breaker
  • 01 Backhoe cutting a service trench in a residential street

  • 02 Excavating a pit by hand

  • 03 Open trench, cut and trimmed

Laying

Pipe on a clean bed, threaded beneath the cables and pipes already there.

Footage: sand placed over the new line in the trench
  • 01 New HDPE line laid beneath an existing duct

  • 02 Blue warning tape laid along the trench: “Caution, water mains below”

  • 03 New HDPE service line on its bed in the trench

Road crossings

A launch pit either side, a bore beneath the asphalt, and the main pulled through.

  • 01 Sleeve at the mouth of a bored crossing

  • 02 Launch pit dug beside the road, barriers out

  • 03 Checking depth in the trench

House connections

The open trench to the meter, and the same frontage once it is closed.

Reinstatement

Pipe laid, warning tape over it, ground compacted level. Three photographs of one trench.

  1. New HDPE service line on its bed in the trench

    01 Lay

  2. Blue warning tape laid over the new line

    02 Protect

  3. The same trench backfilled, compacted and level

    03 Reinstate

On site

Barriers, hard hats and high-visibility vests: the plain parts of doing it properly.

  • 01 Hand excavation along a wall, the crew in hard hats and high-visibility vests

  • 02 Open trench along a residential lane, barriers in place
